[DIY Metaphysics presents] Meditation is…
Meditation is not as hard as you think.

In fact, it transcends what you think. That’s sorta the point. Meditation is communion with your experience. It’s the forgetting of your self. You know, like you do when you’re truly laughing, focusing on an intricate project, or really taking in someone you love.
Sure, it’s also the intentional practice of silencing your mind, but that silencing happens all the time ‘by accident.’ It can happen when you listen to music or breathe in fresh morning air. It can be when you’re exercising a new skill or relishing an old one. It might be when you feel the water on your hands when you’re washing dishes.
Meditation is focusing without ideas about yourself or how things should be. It’s a state of being at One with life. Meditation affords your brain the opportunity to ‘forget’ learned patterns of thinking. Those patterns create problems you wouldn’t have except that you think you do.
An example is comparing yourself to someone else. If you didn’t think to compare yourself, you wouldn’t think you had a problem. The thinking pattern of comparison is learned and actually not that helpful. What you want is to feel good about yourself. You think you would if you ranked better, but why? Would it be ok to feel good regardless of where you measured next to them? Wouldn’t that make it easier to focus and ultimately improve?
Meditation is an experience of being at peace and feeling good regardless of what anybody or anything else is doing. It’s a practice of connecting with the joy of living by being present to what you’re doing.
